Upcoming Events

Attention all freshmen! Remember how that awful storm came on through Worcester and caused your class meeting to get cancelled? Wasn’t that so sad? Well dry your eyes because we have rescheduled freshmen class meeting to be held Tuesday, February 16th from 2:00pm-4:00pm. We will be preparing for the 2016 Youth Jobs Rally. It is going to be so much fun and we get to hang out with each other! Also, if anyone from the other classes would like to join they are more than welcome to do so as we prepare for the Youth Jobs Rally.

Youth Jobs Rally

On Thursday, February 18th we will be going to a Youth Jobs Rally. What is a Youth Jobs Rally? So glad you asked. At this rally we will be going to the State House and advocating for youth jobs. We believe that young people should have the ability to get a job but there isn’t always an opportunity available for young people. Come out and have your voice be heard! We will be meeting at the Worcester Youth Center located at 326 Chandler St. at 8:30am. We will be taking a bus to Boston. Please pack a lunch and snacks. We should be back around 4:30pm.

Rhode Island College Tour!

Hey folks there is going to be a sweet college tour of not one, not two but three colleges in Rhode Island. We will be meeting at the Carriage House at 8am and then we will be touring New England Institute of Technology, Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University. Lunch will be provided and we will be returning at 5pm.

Holy Cross Tour

On February 23, we will be touring Holy Cross. Please meet at 51 Cedar St. at 2:30pm. If you are unable to meet at 2:30pm, please meet us at the Holy Cross admissions office at 3:00pm. We should be back around 5:30pm.

Tutoring at Clark

Now is a great time to take advantage of free tutoring at Clark. Just a reminder that tutoring is mandatory for anyone with a 75 or below. Do you have a grade of 75 or below? Don’t worry; be happy because you are required to attend tutoring at Clark to get some extra help to bring that grade up! But where do I go? So glad you asked! Come to Clark University! We will be having tutoring help along with Upward Bound. Tutoring will be held in the Jonas Clark building. On Wednesdays tutoring is located in the following rooms, JC 105 (Computer Lab), JC 206 and JC 218. On Thursdays it is located in rooms JC 102 and Sackler 120. Remember that this is open to ALL of you if you need help with your homework but required of you if you are below a 75 in any class.

Support Check In, Community Meeting and Instagram

Words of Wisdom for the Week!

“Whatever help you can give, no matter how small, will be of immense benefit. As we say in Tibet, the ocean is made of many small drops of water.”

Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche

Support Month Check In

How is everyone doing? Have you been checking in with your support buddy this month? I wanted to take some time to pause and ask some questions to help us think about how to ask for help.

First, do you know what you need? Do you need a listening ear, a hug or someone to just be with you so you aren’t alone with your thoughts? Think about the times your have felt most supported, what was it about that situation that made you feel supported?

Second, recognize that you are worthy of support. Are you that person who is always helping everyone but often feels neglected? Recognize that you can receive support as well as give it.

Third, ask for support. This is a tough one but this is a risk that can lead to great reward. Remember to ask different people for support, some people are really good listeners but aren’t crazy about giving hugs. While a staff member can provide you with wisdom from our years of experience.

Be bold, be brave, know what you need and ask for support because you are worthy of it.

This month at Dynamy we really want to think about support and what it means to be a community that supports each other. Check out the story below and reflect on what it means to you.

That’s Not My Job

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.  There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.  Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.  Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job.  Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it.  It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have.

Extended College Tour

HEY! Are you planning on going on the extended college tour? If your answer is “Heck yes! I’m super excited!” Here are a few things you need to know!

  1. Fundraising! We are hosting a family movie night on December 17th starting at 6:30pm. Dynamy students get in for free! Friends and family will have to pay. Buy tickets for $3 per person or $5 per family, what does your ticket get you? It gets you entrance in to the movie night and a small bag of popcorn. Students will be selling concessions at the event. Our feature will be Home Alone.
  2. There is a deposit of $250 that you need to have in if you want to go on the ECT.                                                             The Timeline for this money is………                                                                                                                                            *$100 in by December 19th                                                                                                                                                        *$150 in by January 15th                                                                                                                                                                        *The balance for the trip (which is still being worked out) will be the 1st of March                                                                 We are hoping that breaking up the cost of the deposit on different due dates will help alleviate some of the pressure you may feel to get your deposit in.
  3. If you already have money, be sure to bring it in to Andy. He will be collecting money and keeping track of it for you.
  4. If you put money down for a deposit, it will become non-refundable after January 31st. Which means if you put money down to reserve a spot and decided you no longer want to go, you can get your money back up until January 31st, after January 31st you will no longer be able to get your money back even if you decide you no longer want to go on the ECT.

The first meeting will be held on December 12th , from 2:30pm-3:30pm at Clark University, in the Jonas Clark Building, room 001. This meeting is so your parents can sign waivers and there will be a review of the code of conduct. If this date and time does not work for you and your parent, you can attend the second meeting date which will be held December 17th, at 7:00pm, in the small conference room during the Family Movie Night fundraiser.
